  • Superintendent: BaRay was chosen to be the Superintendent.

  • Questions and suggestions welcome.

Program: AKC Delegates Meeting Report by AKC Delegate Sharon Weston:

  • Everyone is concerned with decreasing entries at dog shows. Many reasons were discussed. Currently, it was observed that peoples’ leisure time is more limited. Also discussed was that Conformation competition is all ‘pass – fail’ – few ‘pass’ and many ‘fail.’

  • AKC has people to help Clubs in various ways. One way is to send all newly registered dog owners information about their local dog club. RVKC has signed up for this program.

Ideas for promoting purebred dogs and educating the public:

  • Increase public awareness that imported rescue dogs often bring in diseases.

  • Increase public awareness of the implications of the imported rescue dogs’ background and temperament not being known.

  • It is a challenge to educate the public about Conformation dog shows.

  • Breeders must mentor buyers.

  • Consider a booth with tour guides at the show and provide orientation.

  • Advertise in helpful ways – for example posters with safety information.

  • Make the Owner Handled Series more visible. Consider holding the NOHS Groups in the regular Groups ring. Make it a big deal with a big rosette. Consider recognizing a ‘Top 20’ or ‘Top 15’

  • Work with Visitors Bureau to get discounts for entrants on local hotels and restaurants.

  • Advertise on the internet, on Facebook, and on the Club website.

  • Increase Club’s public visibility by taking the AKC Reunite trailer to events like the annual show or to RDO Day.

  • Involve the 4-H.

The new AKC regulations about time and distance between shows do not apply to us.

Brags and Cries: Brags and Cries were heard.

She reported that there were 105 pet intakes, 33 of which were dogs. There were 101 volunteers from several organizations, including Rogue Valley Kennel Club. Everything was well organized and documented and the animals received excellent care. The AKC Reunite Disaster Trailer was very useful and virtually all of the equipment was used. Items for addition to the trailer were noted; some have already been added. Shari Friebus reported that the 4-H group was at the Fairgrounds one day; they were able to learn about the evacuation efforts, the AKC Disaster Trailer, and the care the evacuees received.
